Obituary for Watson

Le Mars, Iowa - Darrell W. Watson, 81, of Le Mars, Iowa, formerly of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Park Place Estates in Le Mars.

Funeral Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2012 at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Darrell Wayne Watson was born on January 31, 1931 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Walter and Hattie (Wood) Watson. He received his primary education in Fort Madison and graduated from Ft. Madison High School in 1948. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Following his Honorable Discharge, Darrell was in California and met Marianne Rountree. They were united in marriage on July 10, 1954 in Belleville, Illinois. In 1961, Darrell and Marianne lived in Florida for a few years prior to moving to Fort Madison, Iowa. Darrell was employed with the Schaeffer Pen Company for a time before taking a position with Chevron Oil. He retired from Chevron in 1986. Darrell enjoyed playing cards, bingo, fishing, and watching John Wayne movies. Darrell was a loving father to Tim and devoted to his wife Marianne. In recent years he was able to share many hours with his grandchildren.

He will be lovingly remembered by his son, Tim and his wife Kim of Le Mars, IA; grandsons, Connor and Noah Watson and Ben White; a sister Norma Shultz of Iowa City, IA; nephews Jack Shultz and his wife Jane of Iowa City, IA and Dave Shultz and his wife Emily of Iowa City, IA; a niece Stefanie (Shultz) Swails and her husband Keith of Iowa City, IA; Rita (Mildenstien) Shultz, wife of Gary Shultz, of Cedar Rapids, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marianne on December 31, 2005; and a nephew Gary Schultz.
