LE MARS, Iowa -- Dora Wensel, 85, of Le Mars died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at her residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church E.L.C.A. in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Dora Frieda Weber was born March 26, 1918, on the family farm in American Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa, to Rick and Tina (Martfield) Weber. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Brunsville, Iowa. She attended the Dalton Country School.
She was united in marriage to William Wensel on Dec. 16, 1938, in Elk Point, S.D. The couple lived in Sioux City and later moved to Le Mars in the mid-1940s. William passed away Jan. 3, 1973.
She was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church and an auxiliary member of American Legion Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars. She loved to collect cookbooks and enjoyed baking from those many recipes she had collected. She also enjoyed traveling with her family and was always ready for a game of bingo.
She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Kay and Verle Allen of Le Mars, Sally and Ronald Martinez of Ontario, Calif., and Peggy and Larry Biltz of Sacramento, Calif.; four grandchildren, Todd Elliot and his wife, Sara, Gregory Elliott and his wife, Julie, Jim Martinez and Whitney Biltz; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kate Boulton of Le Mars, and Viola Rieken of Seney, Iowa; a brother and his wife, William and Doris Weber of St. Cloud, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, William, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Bernice McKay; and two brothers, Henry and Alvin Weber.
Pallbearers will be Henry Rieken, Bruce Erickson, David Vander Kooi, Gregory Elliott, Joshua Elliott and Jim Martinez.
