Harry Henry Pausch Jr. was born August 1, 1935 in Sioux City, Iowa to Harry H. and Mabel (Sorenson-Blackmore) Pausch. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Johnson Township. Harry attended country school in Johnson Township, rural Merrill, Iowa through the 7th grade and then helped his parents on the family farm. As a teenager, Harry was a very good pitcher of the Junior Legion baseball team. He was employed at Grotewold Chevrolet and Whelan Ford where he learned mechanic work. Harry served in the United States Army and was medically discharged in 1958.
Harry was united in marriage to Lois Pech on September 4, 1960 at the Calvary E.U.B. Church in Le Mars. Harry and Lois farmed and raised livestock on a farm in Fredonia Township, North of Oyens, Iowa from 1961 to 1983 and did mechanic work part time. He then opened his own shop, "Harry''s Repair" and worked fulltime on tractors and machinery. Harry was a very talented, self-taught mechanic. He was very comfortable working on all makes and models of tractors. He was also a very gifted welder, known for his repair and fabrication talents. He continued to repair farm tractors and equipment for several years. He was known for his "ideas" to make equipment better and fabricated those ideas to reality on lots of implements. He continued operating the shop until moving to Le Mars in 2007.
Harry had a passion for nature. He worshipped the beauty of the outdoors. It has been said that "he loved to hunt everything from gophers to grizzlies." Harry would take his horses and camp in the mountains. They enjoyed several hunting and fishing trips to Canada. They also enjoyed traveling in their motorhome to Alaska and Texas. Harry had a gift for recalling those hunting trips with family and friends. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Le Mars and the Le Mars Sportmans Club. He was a thoughtful, caring person as well as a practical joker. He was always ready to help someone anyway he could. His family was always very important to him.
