Eddie Martfeld, 81, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ with Reverend Jan Christensen officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post #241 of Le Mars will be at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be after 4:00 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2015 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars. Pallbearers will be Matt Beeck, Russell Martfeld, Ronnie Martfeld, Rusty Burnham, Mike Gerhardt, Randy Heisel, Lanny Ioos, and Marv Urban.

Eddie Carl Martfeld was born April 2, 1933 on the family farm in Washington Township to Fred and Anna (Freiberg) Martfeld. Eddie attended country school at the Dalton School West of Le Mars. He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army from 1954 to 1955. Eddie was united in marriage to Janice Ioos on October 15, 1958 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Le Mars. He farmed a small section of ground in Elgin Township from the late 1960''s to the early 1970''s along with working as a mechanic at Grau Motors which later became Coppick Motors for 14 years. He then went to work for the John Deere dealership in Le Mars as a diesel mechanic for 29 years, retiring in 1995. Janice passed away October 16, 1980. Eddie later was united in marriage to Norma Mason on February 1, 1982 at the Church of Christ parsonage in Fairmont, Minnesota. Eddie was a longtime active member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ. During retirement, Eddie kept busy with doing yard and snow removal for many friends and neighbors. He and Norma enjoyed traveling to the Black Hills, Branson, Missouri, and Park Rapids, Minnesota to visit friends and family. Eddie had a "true servants'' heart"; he assisted many people in Le Mars. He would check in on the homebound, provide transportation to doctor''s appointments, to church, and the grocery store. Family was always very important to Eddie and Norma. They maintained very close relationships with their siblings and nieces and nephews. They always enjoyed the visits with family. Eddie enjoyed visiting with all; it has been said that he "never met a stranger". He will be missed by many.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Norma of Le Mars; in-laws: Barbara and Allen Burnham of Truman, MN, Leon and Susan Chase of Meriden, IA, Lanny Ioos of Winner, SD, Judy Conway of Johnston, IA and Donald Beeck of Le Mars; and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Anna (Freiberg) Martfeld; his first wife Janice; siblings: Walt (Ruby) Martfeld, Irene (Don) Winchester, Lucille (Harry) Baerg, Judy Beeck, and Delores Martfeld as a child; a nephew, Larry Winchester; his in-laws, Heine and Margaret Ioos and Claud and Mary Mason; and sisters-in-law, Peggy Chase and DeeAnna Mason.
