David G. Wingert, 69, of Remsen, Iowa passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center from complications of A.L.S.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2013 at the United Methodist Church of Le Mars with Reverend John Battern officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the Carlsen Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Monday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Memorials can be directed to the A.L.S. Foundation, 6165 NW 86th St., Suite 205, Johnston, IA 50131. Pallbearers will be his godson Tracy Wingert, Travis Wingert, Blane Smith, Jim Augustine, Kevin Westhoff, Greg Schulte, Dave Gion, and Ken Augustine.

David Gemmill Wingert was born September 1, 1943 on the family farm near Kingsley, Iowa to Claire and Mary (Foran) Wingert. He was baptized at the Church of the Brethren in Kingsley. He attended country school near his home and later graduated from Union Consolidated High School in 1961. Following high school, Dave worked on the John Heline turkey farm before deciding to continue his education at the National Business Training (NBT) school in Sioux City. While in school he worked for Grand Jewelers. Dave served his country for six years with the 185th Iowa Air National Guard. Dave was united in marriage to Patricia Parks on August 17, 1968 at the First United Methodist Church in Le Mars. Dave then began his 40-year career with the Farmer''s Savings Bank in Remsen, where he served as Vice President, Cashier, and Trust Officer. Dave was very active with the Remsen-Union Community School, having served on several committees with the school. He was also a member of the R-U Boosters, R-U Advisory Board, Remsen Golf Board, Remsen Chamber of Commerce, and served as the secretary of the Salvation Army. For many years, Dave kept the score book for R-U basketball games and was the announcer for football games. He was a member of the Le Mars United Methodist Church, where he served on the church board and as a trustee and usher. He served on the Board of Directors of the Farmer''s Savings Bank and later Iowa State Bank for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Pat of Remsen; a daughter, Shana Drehs and her husband Wayne of Naperville, IL, and their daughter Ava; two brothers, Harry Wingert and his wife Kay of Omaha, NE, and Frank Wingert and his wife Leanne of Sioux City; two sisters, Kay Forslund of Omaha, NE, and Gayle Wingert of White Bear Lake, MN; a sister-in-law, Kay Augustine of Remsen; a brother-in-law, Tom Parks and his wife Carol of Spirit Lake, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Claire and Mary (Foran) Wingert; brother-in-law, Jerry Augustine; and his parents-in-law, Dean and Marge Parks.
