Obituary for Jim Rohlfsen

Jim Rohlfsen, 69, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, June 27, 2017. A Celebration of Life service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 30, 2017 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Rev. Chris Meier and Rev. Dr. Jean Ziettlow will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

James Elwood Rohlfsen was born on November 23, 1947 in Le Mars, Iowa, one of three sons born to Stanley and Lillian (Frerichs) Rohlfsen. He graduated from Le Mars High School in 1966 and participated in theater. He furthered his education at the University of Northern Iowa where he earned a degree in business. While at UNI, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and served as president.

On July 26, 1969, Jim and Georgia Lee were united in marriage at Humboldt, Iowa. They made their first home in Humboldt where Jim worked in the construction field. After a few years they moved to Le Mars and Jim began farming with his father, Stanley and brother, Tom. In later years, Jim worked part-time at Bob’s Bike Shop in Le Mars.

Jim was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. He would later serve on the church council and as the congregational president. He enjoyed studying history and was an avid reader. Jim loved to talk farming with neighbors. He was a UNI Panthers and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Jim and Georgia were able to travel throughout the United States and looked forward to future trips. Throughout the years Jim also took several trips to Europe with his son Ryan. Of all things, Jim enjoyed his grandchildren most of all.

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Georgia of Le Mars, IA; two sons, Ryan and his wife, Cindy of Chicago, IL and Matt and his wife, Dorotha of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Cameron, Jordyn, Brooklyn, Raven and Nolan; a brother, Tom and his wife, Myrna of Tampa, FL; a brother-in-law, Bob Lee and his wife, Jane of Humboldt, IA; sister-in-law, Terry Rohlfsen of Le Mars, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, David.
