LE MARS, Iowa - Cecil William Staebell, 72, of Le Mars died Wendesday, March 12, 1997, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Burial, with military honors by Wasmar Post 241, will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a rosary by the Altar Society at 4 p.m., and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., all at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Mr. Staebell was born Oct. 31, 1924, at Le Mars to Joseph and Rose (Bauler). He grew up in Le Mars and attended St. Joseph's Catholic School. During WWII, he served in the U.S.Army with Company B, 1915th Engineers Battalion in Okinawa, Japan. Shortly after the end of the War, he began employment with Wiltgen Construction in Le Mars, and had worked with them for over 50 years, many of those as superintendent. He married Marlene Wiltman Jan. 29, 1972, at Elk Point, S.D. He was a native and lifelong resident of Le Mars.

He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, the American Legion Wasmar Post 241, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Airee #1381, and the Woodbury Woody's camping club in Sioux City.

Survivors include his wife of Le Mars; three daughters, Linda and her husband David Byrne of Bastrop, Texas, Jayne of Colorado Springs, Colo., Melissa and her husband Fred Timp of Le Mars; a son, Donald of Alexandria, Va.; three stepdaughters, Chris Buckley, Desiree and her husband Dennis Toel, all of Le Mars, Debra and her husband Hector Mota of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister and her husband, Rose Mary and Joe Hilgers of McHenry, Ill.; a brother and his wife, Tom and Barb of Morgantown, Ga.; two brothers-in-law, Jim Martin of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Pat Boever of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, John and one in infancy; four brothers, Ken, Ron, Harry, and Arnie; and two sisters, Lois Martin and Marcella Boever.
