Marguerite Petry, 95, of Le Mars passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Brentwood Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Le Mars United Methodist Church with Reverend Jason Larson officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be after 4:00 p.m. at the Le Mars United Methodist Church followed by a 6:30 p.m. Prayer Service Tuesday evening at the church. Visitations will continue Wednesday afternoon at the church from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars.

Pallbearers will be Scott Pinkelman, Phil Reeves, Darwin Betsworth, Paul Petry, Todd Petry, and Gary Kurth.

Marguerite Wilma Bass was born August 29, 1915 in Marcus, Iowa to W.W. "William" and Nora (Kracke) Bass. When she was three years old her mother passed away. Her father later married Blanche Ulstad. Marguerite attended and graduated from Marcus High School. Following high school she received her teaching certificate and taught country school. She was united in marriage to Donald Petry in 1936 in Elk Point, South Dakota. The couple lived briefly in Long Beach, California before returning to Iowa and settling in Le Mars to raise their children. Donald passed away in 1958. Marguerite eventually went to work for Westmar College where she had worked as a secretary to the Dean and later as the secretary to the President of Westmar until her retirement in 1985. While living in Le Mars, Marguerite was a member of the E.U.B. Church which later became Calvary United Methodist Church and recently Le Mars United Methodist Church. She taught the nursery class for over 20 years and volunteered and assisted with the United Methodist Women for many years. Family was always a priority for Marguerite. She always enjoyed having family over to her "porch" to watch parades on Central Ave. Her children and grandchildren cherished family gatherings and holidays at her home.

Survivors include her children: David Petry and his wife Jan of Waterloo, IA, Linda Dobson and her husband Larry of Le Mars, Pam Reeves and her husband Gene of Le Mars; a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Petry of Le Mars; 11 grandchildren: (David and Jan) Julie (Pat) Ward, Tammi (Jeff) Grams, Jacque (Scott) Morningstar, Todd (Amy) Petry, and Paul (Sheila) Petry, (Linda and Larry) Meredith (Gary) Kurth, (Chuck and JoAnn) Laura (Darwin) Betsworth and Sarah (James) Landis, (Pam and Gene) Amanda (Jim) Fico, Katie (Scott) Pinkelman, and Philip Reeves; 36 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter; a sister, Jean Hogue of Marcus, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Chuck Petry in 1996; a daughter, Sandra Jean Petry in infancy; and 3 brothers.
