Ed Norell, 70, of Le Mars passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 25, 2012 surrounded by his family at his home in Le Mars.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2012 at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars with Pastor Tim Geitz officiating. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will continue Friday at the church from noon until service time.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Lewis, Jason Lewis, Rob Farmer, Bob Wilson, Tim Ueding, and Mike Feller. Honorary casket bearers will be his grandchildren.

Edward Ralph Norell was born December 25, 1941 in Le Mars, Iowa to John Ralph and Dora Irene () Norell. Ed graduated from Le Mars Central High School with the Class of 1960. After graduation from high school, Ed worked as a painter for Dewey Driscoll and later Jim Mead. Ed was united in marriage to Darlene Seel on November 2, 1963 at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Ed and Darlene were blessed with two children, Jennie and Julie. In 1964, Ed began his 37 year career with Sioux Tools in Le Mars. After the plant closed in Le Mars, Ed continued to work for Sioux Tools in Sioux City until 2001. He later went to work for Advance Brands in Orange City until his retirement in 2007. Ed was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church; having served as a trustee for a number of years. He was also a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1383. Ed enjoyed "tinkering" in his garage; he could often be found working on jukeboxes and pinball machines. As a young man, Ed enjoyed working as a mechanic on the stock cars at Collins Field. His mechanical ability also extended to repairing tv''s and just about anything that was broken. He also enjoyed reading western books and going fishing with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Darlene, of Le Mars; 2 daughters, Jennie Raine of York, South Carolina and Julie Hatfield of Le Mars; 7 grandchildren: Rob Wilson of Pineville, NC, Ryan Wilson of Charlotte, NC, Alex Raine of York, SC, Katie Raine of York, SC, Stephanie, Shay, and Cody Hatfield all of Le Mars; a great-grandson, Noah Wilson of Pineville, NC; cousins: Jolene Haddack of Garden City, MI, Lois Smith of Aurelia, IA, Deve Killian of Cherokee, IA, and Twyla Ritter of Cherokee, IA; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Seel of Cherokee, IA; a sister-in-law, Donna Colvert of Cherokee, IA; 2 brothers-in-law, Dennis (Debbie) Seel of LaVerne, CA and Doug Seel of Cherokee, IA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father in 1972 and mother in 1983; grandparents, George and Jennie Moran; 2 aunts, Ila Carson and Maudie Ritter.
