REMSEN, Iowa -- Donell F. Engelbrecht, 70, of Remsen died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Craig Miller officiating. Burial will be in Remsen City Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
Donell was born Sept. 12, 1935, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Frank and Dora (Sanny) Engelbrecht. He was raised in the Remsen area and received his education in both the rural school system and Remsen Public School, from which he graduated in 1954. He was then employed at First Trust and Saving Bank in Remsen. He later moved to Sioux City, where he worked at Toy National Bank. In the mid-1950s, he moved to California, where he was employed with Bank of American in Pasadena. In 1961, he returned to Remsen, where he was employed as the office manager of the Remsen Veterinary Clinic until he retired in 2000. He was a faithful employee and loved visiting with the clients and pharmaceutical representatives. He took pride in his merchandising.
He was a life member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the choir and served on the church council for many years. He was a past member of the Remsen Lions, where he served as secretary and enjoyed attending many conventions. He loved traveling and adventure. He enjoyed many snowmobile trips and upon retirement, he traveled to many different parts of the United States and the world. He was eagerly anticipating a trip to the northeastern parts of the U.S. and Canada this summer.
Survivors include several cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two infant brothers, Virgil and Russel.
Pallbearers will be Steve Parrish, Dale Drum, Edward Henrich, Clarence Harpenau, Robert R. Meyer and David Kruse.
Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Endowment Fund of Remsen.
