Andrew Fredrick Jurgensen, 92, Akron, Iowa, Iowa, formerly of Alcester, S.D., died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at the Akron Care Center following a long illness.
Services were held Thursday, July 23, 1998, at the Schroeder Funeral Home, Akron with the Reverend Allen Bidne officiating. Schroeder Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron.
Casket Bearers were Dennis Wilken, Marvin Hitzemann, Vernon Jurgensen, Roger Dau, George Hitzeman, Ryan Betcke. Honorry Casket Bearer was Bob Haas.
Mr. Jurgensen was born on November 24, 1905, in Akron, the son of Henry and Mary (Von Hagel) Jurgensen. He attended the Searls Country School near Akron and was confirmed of the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron.
He had lived around Akron for many years before moving to Alcester, S. D. where he lived for 40 years. Andrew had worked as a farmhand, cut lumber, and repairman. He was an avid reader of Readers Digest, enjoyed “old time” music, and attending auction and estate sales.
Andrew is survived by two sisters; Elma Anderson of Akron and Phyllis and her husband Dale Stokes of Scottsdale, AZ; a grand niece; Ranelle Johnson of South Sioux City, NE; two sisters-in-law; Darlene Jurgensen of Le Mars, IA, and Mildred Jurgensen, Worthington, MN; several grand and great nieces and nephews; and good friend; Bob Haas of Beresford, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Clifford and Alvin, a brothr-in-law; Norman Anderson.
