DEATH COMES TO MRS. MAYME EDGAR
Rites Held Here Monday Morning For Former Akron Resident
Mrs. Mayme Edgar, a former resident of Akron, passed away at a Sioux City hospital on Friday, December 14, 1951, after an illness of about four months, at the age of 72 years, 7 months and 16 days.
Mayme Waterbury, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.A. Waterbury, pioneer Akron residents, was born April 28, 1879, and grew to young womanhood here. She was married to Frank A. Edgar, of Sloan, Iowa, and two sons and two daughters were born to them. They made their home in Akron for: a number of years, Mr. Edgar being employed; as a bookkeeper by several firms here. He preceded his wife in death about 24 years ago. Besides her parent’s one brother, D.L. Waterbury, and one sister, Mrs. Fern Greenleaf, also preceded her in death. Mrs. Edgar was a member of St. Columbkille Catholic church at Varina, Iowa.
Survivors are two sons, Kenneth, of Sioux City, and Ivan, of Hartington, Nebr.; two daughters, Mrs. Leo Lamoureux, of Varina, and Mrs. William Murray, of Chicago; a sister, Mrs. Charles Bertrand, of Spink, S.D.; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held here Monday morning from the Lewison Funeral Home and at St. Patrick's Catholic church, Rev. Fr. J.R, Skahill officiating. Interment was in Riverside, cemetery. Pallbearers were Donald Ross, Aug. Kaelke, Frank Trautt, Russell, Waterbury, Eugene Lias and Gerald Smith.
A grandson of Mrs. Edgar, Pvt. Russell Edgar, was killed in action with the U.S. forces in Korea a few months ago. His body was brought to Sioux City and memorial services and burial services were held there on Monday, December 10.
