Arnold Hummel, 84, of Akron departed this world Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at a Sioux City hospital.

Cremains will be interred at a later date. The family will be gathering at 3 p.m. today at Christy-Smith Funeral Home Resource Center for those wishing to express their condolences.

He was born on June 17, 1931, in Rosalie Neb., to Lynn and Clementine (Mount) Hummel. He graduating from Westfield Community School, class of 1950.

He was united in marriage with Wilma Stevens on Aug. 19, 1950. He spent his entire life in the area farming, working for Wonder Bread Bakery, the Westfield School District, and American Equipment Corp. Later in life, he became a business owner and an entrepreneur.

Arnold loved old cars but was an avid Studebaker collector, owning, refurbishing, and driving many different models. He was a member of the National Studebaker Driver's Association and the Siouxland Antique Car Club Association. He was a charter member of the Westfield Lion's Club and was instrumental in the development of the charter. He enjoyed traveling around the U.S. with his wife and adult children.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Wilma; three children, Veronica (Bill) Porter of Brady Neb., Richard (Linda) Hummel of Overbrook, Kan., and Alan (Pam) Hummel of Indianola, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Stephanie, Jim, Michael, Daniel, Shane, Mindi, Jyma, Hayes, and Joshua; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great-granddaughters; two sisters, Nettie Dunham of Alcester, S.D., and Mavis Klein of Elk Point, S.D.; and two brothers, Hank (Sherry) Hummel of Gibson CIty, Ill., and Robert (Laurel) Hummel of Hartselle, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marion Ross; two grandsons, Lucas and Ben Hummel; in-laws, Lester and Ruby Stevens; a sister-in-law, Caroline Hummel; and three brothers-in-law, Ronald Klein, Robert Dunham, and Guy "Buster" Ross.
