DEATH COMES TO PIONEER AKRON WOMAN TUESDAY

Last Rites Will Be Held Friday Afternoon For Mrs. F.P. Baker

Mrs. F.P. Baker, an esteemed pioneer resident of Akron vicinity, passed away in St. Joseph's Hospital, Sioux City, Tuesday morning, April 24, 1951, after a brief illness, at the advanced age of 86 years, 6 months and 7 days. On April 14, Mrs. Baker fell in her home west of here and suffered a fractured hip. She was taken to the hospital in Sioux City and underwent surgery for repair of the injury. She appeared to be making satisfactory improvement, but a complication ensued, from which she was unable to rally.

Elvira Pauline Hale was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, October 17, 1864. She came to Sioux City with her parents by covered wagon in 1876, and shortly afterward they located in Akron, then called Portlandville. In 1888 she was united in marriage with Francis Pynder Baker. One son, Rollo J., came to bless their union. They made a home on their farm, about a mile and a half northwest of here, in Union County, S.D. Mr. Baker preceded his wife in death in 1923.

Besides her son, Rollo, of Akron, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Maude Williams, of Tacoma, Wash., and three grandchildren, Mrs. T. Robert Burnight, of Washington, D.C.; Slade Baker, of Tacoma, Wash., and Jack Baker, of Akron; also by seven great-grandchildren. One bother and three sisters preceded her in death.

Mrs. Baker had resided in Akron vicinity the past seventy-five years. A woman of pleasant personality and friendly nature, she acquired a host of friends, by whom she will be sincerely missed. She maintained a keen interest in the affairs of life and was unusually active for one of her year's right up to the time of the accident that resulted in her demise.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 1 o'clock at the family home, west of town, with Rev. D.J. Roy officiating. Interment will be in Riverside cemetery.

Relatives who came to attend the funeral were Mrs. T. Robert Burnight, of Washington, D.C., and Slade Baker, of Tacoma, Wash.
