Westfield, Iowa- Marietta Marcella Brown (Etta) 88 of Westfield died Thursday June 12, 2014 at the Akron Care Center following a long illness.

Services will be 11:00 AM on Monday, June 16th at the Congregational UCC in Westfield. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Sunday June 15th at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Wass Home for Funerals in Alcester, S.D.

Marietta was born on July 13, 1925 to Arthur J. and Lavada Anderson in Westfield, IA. She was one of five girls. She graduated from Westfield Community School in 1943 and was a proud member the Panther Basketball team. She married Wallace “Wally” Robert Brown on February 5, 1944 in Akron, IA. The couple farmed in the Merrill and Akron areas. Etta served as the Mayor of Westfield and was employed at Iowa Beef Processors before retirement. Marietta liked fishing and camping with Wally but most all she loved getting together with her family and laughing with her infectious laugh.

She is survived by her daughters Wanda Kayl Grand Island NE Pat (Randy) Benton Akron IA her son, Bill (Sue) Brown Akron IA, daughter-in-law Jean Brown Vermillion SD, 8 Grandchildren: Jamie (Kyle) Norseen, Rick (Trish) Johnson, Janelle (Chuck) Bish, Walker (Amy) Brown, Jake (Vanessa) Benton, Andrew Brown, Benjamin Brown, Maggie Brown 19 great grandchildren 2 great, great grandchildren 1 brother-in-law, Julian Dziurawiec

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Brown, her daughter, Jerrine Johnson, her son, Wayne Brown, sons-in-law, Marty Kayl and Sam Johnson, her parents, sisters and brothers-in-law Margaret (Gordon) Hummel, Maie Dziurawiec, Mildred (Fred) Yates, Melva (Walter) Trobaugh and brother Mervin in infancy.
Finally, Marietta and her family would like to thank the Akron Care Center Staff for their amazing care and Hospice of Siouxland, Melanie and Sheila.
