Dziurawiec, Maie Melva 1923-2013

Maie Melva Dziurawiec, 89, of Lee's Summit, MO, passed away at Benton House, Jan. 17, 2013. The family will receive friends at noon, Fri. Jan 25 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4101 E 105th Terr., Kansas City, MO. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 PM followed by Inurnment in Belton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions to Good Shepherd Hospice or Alzheimer's Association.

Maie was born on July 3, 1923 in Akron, Iowa, to Arthur and Levada Anderson, one of 5 sisters. She graduated from Westfield High School, where she and her sisters played varsity basketball. She met her future husband, Julian, at the flower shop where she worked in Sioux City, IA. During her working years, Maie worked in the packing plant industry in Sioux City and also as a K-Mart associate in Overland Park, KS. During their marriage Maie and Julian lived in Sioux City; Morehead, MN; Kansas City, MO; Jeddah, Saudia Arabia; Raymore and Lee's Summit, MO. Maie loved her family, and she and Julian recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. She enjoyed planning and hosting dinner parties for her immediate family, especially during the holidays. Another of her favorite activities, in years past, was summer vacations to the Black Hills in SD with her sisters and extended families. During their retirement years, Maie and Julian have enjoyed traveling by RV, wintering in the southwest, with Las Vegas being a special place for them. Maie was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and three sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Julian; a daughter, Carol Ann Woodhead and her husband John; son Julian and his wife Debbie; grandsons William and Barry & (Stephanie) Roberts, and Christopher & (Melissa) and Jesse Dziurawiec; four great-grandaughters Mary, Sarah, Samantha and Sydney Roberts; and two great-grandsons Austin and Mason Dziurawiec. She is also survived by her sister Marietta of Westfield, IA, and many loving nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express sincere thanks and appreciation for the loving care provided by Good Shepherd Hospice and the staff at Benton House of Lee's Summit.
