Wm. C. Mattas

William C. Mattas of Merrill suffered a heart attack at the home of his brother, Jack, with whom he made his home. He passed away May 11, 1961.

Mr. Mattas was born October 13, 1897 in Plymouth county and was 63 years of age. Mr. Mattas had farmed his entire life until 1935 when he moved to Merrill. He lived 3 1/2 miles west of Merrill until 1955. His parents were Joseph Mattas and Mary Buryanek Mattas. He was never married.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church, Merrill with Rev. Gale Hawhee officiating. Burial was in Hillside cemetery under direction of the Luken funeral home here.

Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Leslie (Edith) Bauerly of Sioux City, Mrs. Ed (Verna) Johnson of Craig; Mrs. Ed (Carrie) Marienau of Merrill; six brothers, Edward of San Diego; Lawrence (Steve) of Hastings-, Nebraska; Joseph (Jack) of Merrill; Leslie of Merrill; Harry of LeMars and Frank of Merrill.

Mr. Mattas had been night marshall at Merrill and carried mail from the train to post office.
