During more than a week prior to her death a trained nurse was in charge, and in spite of all that professional care could do she gradually weakened. The end came Saturday night at 11:45 o’clock. During her sickness and at her bedside at the time of death were her husband and two daughters.
Mrs. Lindemann, whose maiden name was Florine Haupt, was born in Holstein, Germany, on March 26, 1857, and came to the United States with her parents in 1867, when she was but 10 years of age. On their arrival the family came directly to Iowa, settling on a farm in Benton county, and there she was united in marriage to Detlef Lindemann on March 20, 1875. Mr. and Mrs. Lindemann went to farming immediately after their marriage, locating in Benton county, where they continued to reside for six years, and in the spring of 1881 they came to Plymouth county, living southeast of town for many years. They retired in 1902 and came to town, building a comfortable home in the south part of town. They have lived here ever since with the exception of three years which they spent in California.
Mr. and Mrs. Lindemann were allotted more than half a century of married life, a blessing which comes to but few, and the year were filled with happiness that was broken only by her death. The couple celebrated their golden anniversary three years ago.
The deceased was a member of the Lutheran church all her life, and was firmly devoted to its precepts which were reflected in her daily life among her family and her many friends. She was a member of the Ladies’ Aid of Christ Lutheran church since its organization 18 years ago. She was a woman of noble character and in social life her presence was always welcomed , due to her cheerful and kindly disposition which endeared her to those with whom she came in contact. Mrs. Lindemann was a devoted wife and loving mother, while her friends as well regarded her as a companion whose departure will be mourned for years to come. Her passing is indeed a severe blow to her husband and children who have the sincere sympathy of the community.
Surviving the deceased, besides her sorrowing husband, are the following children: Henry Lindemann, Bethany, Calif.; William and Gustave Lindemann, Oakland, Calif.; Mrs. Emma Peoples, Sioux City, and Mrs. Dorothea Sievers, Remsen. There are eleven grand children. One child passed away in infancy, while the family still lived in Benton county. Of Mrs. Lindemann’s eleven brothers and sisters, only one, Mrs. Henry Zornig, of Newhall, Iowa, survives her.
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon with services at the family home at 1:30 o’clock, followed by services in Christ Lutheran church. The Rev. A Noack, pastor, was in charge of the services. Interment was made in the Remsen cemetery. The funeral was largely attended and was a fitting testimonial of the esteem in which the deceased was held in this community for nearly half a century. – Remsen Bell-Enterprise, December 13, 1928, page 1, column 5 and page 4, column 4.
