Charles 'Harold' Vrana
Charles "Harold" Vrana, 70, of Westfield, died Sunday morning, Dec. 4, 2005, at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Charles Harold Vrana was born Oct. 14, 1935 in Manilla„ first born of twin sons to John and Mary Ruth (Saunders) Vrana. He was baptized into the Christian faith at the Presbyterian Church in Manilla. He received his education at the Manilla Community School. Following his school, he went to work for the Milwaukee Railroad. He met and was united in marriage to Marlys Jean Ross on July 16, 1954 in Dakota City, Neb. Together they are the parents of two sons, Michael and Douglas. Following their marriage, they lived in Denison for one year before moving to Westfield in 1955. Harold went to work for the Akron Creamery. He also worked various other jobs, including construction for many years. Thereafter he went to work for American Popcorn Company in Sioux City, retiring in 1991. Marlys died in 1994.
Most recently, he was a resident of the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden. He was expecting his first great-grandchildren in
April of 2006. He was a member of the Westfield Congregational Church in Westfield. He enjoyed his fishing trips with his children and wife. He also enjoyed his trips to Lake Okoboji with his sister and brother-in-law. Mary Joanie" and Donny Berry and later with his brother- in-law, Guy "Buster" Ross. Christmas was his favorite time of the year; where he loved to decorate. But most of all, he loved his family, who will cherish his memory forever.Survivors include his two sons, Michael Vrana of Sioux City, and Douglas Vrana and his wife, Renee of Westfield; two granddaughters, Nicole Vrana of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Darla Schulz and her husband, a son of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a sister, Jean Van Sickle and Her husband, Charles of Sac City; two brothers, John Edward Vrana of Kirksville, Mo., and Howard Vrana and his wife, Irene of Denison; two sisters-in-law, Velma Knudson of Akron and Marion Ross of Westfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a sister and brother-in-law: Mary "Joanie" Berry and Donald Berry; three brothers-in-law: Hans H. Knudson, Melvin "Bud" Ross, and Guy "Buster" Ross; and his father and mother-in-law Guy, Sr. and Laura E. Ross,
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Westfield Congregational Church in Westfield, with the Rev. Steve Jewett officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron.
