Life’s End. HENRY MEYER, 87, EARLY DAY COUNTY RESIDENT IS DEAD. Plan Funeral Rites Monday.
Henry Louis Meyer, 87, retired farmer who came to Plymouth county in 1898, died Thursday at Sacred Heart hospital after six weeks of illness. He had been hospitalized since Feb. 22.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John United church with Rev. Harold Maxwell officiating. Burial will be in Le Mars Memorial cemetery under direction of Mauer’s funeral home.
Mr. Meyer was born Sept. 12, 1875, at Garnavillo, the son of Louis H. and Eliza Moellering Meyer. His marriage to Sarah Mohning took place Dec. 7, 1898, in Le Mars. He lived in Plymouth county since, with the exception of four years in Montana.
Mr. Meyer had made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Frank Lauters. He was an active member of St. John United church until recent years.
Surviving are eight children, Mrs. Leona Moeller of Pasadena, Calif., Alvin of Malta, Mont. Harold of Sioux City, Lloyd of Seattle, Herbert of Wall, S.D., Ervin of Davenport, Mrs. Ray (Helen) Gates of Marcus and Mrs. Frank (Laura) Lauters of Le Mars.
Also surviving are 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a brother and two sisters, John Meyer, Mrs. Theodore Meyer and Mrs. Herman Kragel, all of Garnavillo. He was preceded in death by his wife and two children in infancy. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, March 22, 1963, page 1.
