John Featherston Claimed By Death Resident In County Nearly Sixty Years

John Featherston, 83, widely known farmer and prominent citizen in Plymouth county for nearly three score years, died at his home 700 Central Avenue, SE, Monday, December 1, following a three days illness caused by a heart attack.

John Richard Featherston was born at Meherrin, Virginia, November 2, 1858, and when a young man came to Iowa and settled- in Jones county. He was married March 10, 1880, at Cascade, Iowa, to Letitia Croston. They came to Plymouth county in 1882 and bought a farm in Union township where they lived until retiring to make their home in Le Mars.

Mr. Featherston is survived by four sons and two daughters, Walter, living at home, Mrs. W. R. Payne, Benton. Harbor, Mich., Fred, of Union township, Mrs. E. S. Kitterman of Kingsley, Gregg Featherston of Union township, Elmer Featherston of Chicago. There are eight grandchildren. His wife and and infant daughter preceded him in death.

Mr. Featherston was a member of the Methodist church. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the Mauer funeral chapel, Rev. W. M. Hubbard officiating, and interment made in the city The pallbearers were R. C. Bartels, R. S. Bowers, R. M. Figg, C. P. Kistle, R J. M. Long and C. C. Woodke.

John Featherston was a fine citizen possessed of integrity and honor and lived a life worthy of emulation. He was an accommodating neighbor and a friend always willing to do a good turn. He was esteemed by all who knew him.
