Mrs. Charles Jans Buried In Akron

Mrs. Charlie Jans, a long-time resident of Plymouth county, passed away on Monday, April 2, 1951, at her home in Akron, at the age of 73 years, 6 months and 18 days.

Frieda Mann was born September 15, 1877, in Hanover, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mann. At the age of five years she came to this country with her parents and settled in Sioux City, Iowa. She was the second eldest child in a family of nine children. She spent her childhood in and near Sioux City. On July 8, 1896, she was united in marriage with Carl Frederick Jans at Le Mars, Iowa. Together they farmed in Minnesota. South Dakota and Iowa, and in 1932 they retired and moved into Akron, Iowa, which place has since remained their home.

She is survived by her husband and nine children—one son, Karl E. Jans, of Akron; (Margaret) Mrs. Fred Onnen, of Akron (Lena) Mrs. Albert Rosenbaum, of Elk Point, S. D.; (Minnie) Mrs. Frank Rosenbaum, of Jefferson, S.D.; (Clara) Mrs. Earl Rosenbaum, and (Freda) Mrs. Wm. Onnen, of Elk Point; (Edna) Mrs. Elmer Petty, of (Ethel) Mrs. Richard Onnen, of Akron;Westfield, la., and (Marie) Mrs. Walter Starkman, of Akron; also, by 36 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Two daughters preceded her in death—her eldest (Rose) Mrs. Herferd McLain, and the youngest child, Goldie Jans.

Mrs. Jans was a kind and devoted wife and mother, and a good and helpful neighbor. She was a longtime member of the Methodist W. S. C. S., and also a member of the V. F. W. Auxiliary.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, last week in the First Methodist church in Akron, Rev. H. Myron Braun officiating. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
