HOLD RITES FOR ESTEEMED UNION COUNTY RESIDENT

Herbert E. Bradley Spent Most Of Life In This Community

Herbert E. Bradley passed away at the Akron Hospital on Sunday afternoon, November 10, 1957. He was 78 years of age.

Herbert Edgar Bradley was born in Plymouth county, Iowa, near Adaville, on September 8, 1878. He went with his parents to live in Akron when he was seven years old. Here he attended public school and grew to manhood. He and his father, E. J. Bradley, were at one time engaged in the livery business in Akron. He was united -in marriage to Myrtie M. Pollock on August 6, 1902. To this union six children were born, two of whom preceded him in death.

The Bradleys moved to Ravinia, Charles Mix county, S. D., in 1906 and farmed there until 1914, when they returned to Plymouth county. Here they rented a farm and operated it until 1919, at which time they moved onto a farm which he purchased in Sioux Valley township, Union county, northwest of Akron. The family lived together on the Sioux Valley farm until each of the children left to make homes of their own. Mr. Bradley lived on the farm until a year ago, when he moved to Elk Point.

In November, 1953, Mr. and Mrs. Bradley became members of Union Creek Lutheran Church through adult baptism, and have continued in this affiliation since that time. Mr. Bradley was always active in community affairs, which included local Red Cross, local school board, AAA community committeeman and grain sealer and other activities. Those who knew him testify that he always exemplified a fine, neighborly spirit, in. relations with -others.

Immediate survivors are: His wife, Myrtie, who has been a patient for some time in the Akron Hospital; his two daughters, Mrs. Ruby Davis, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Mrs. Murel Boyd, of Elk Point, S. D.; his two sons, Harlan and Kervyn, both of Casper, Wyoming; ten grandchildren; his sister, Mrs. C. C. Coles, of St. Paul, Minn., a number of other relatives, and his many friends.

He was preceded in death. by his parents; a brother, Clyde, and a sister, Mrs. Chas. W. Ruble.

The funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon, November 13, at the Union Creek Lutheran church, preceded by a brief service in the Rossow Funeral Home. Pastor David J. Roy officiated.

Pallbearers were Earl Hultgren, Kenneth Hultgren, Russell Hultgren, Robert Root, Eldon Seely and Floyd Wilcox. Mrs. Victor Clark and Mrs. Lee Stoutenburg, accompanied by Mrs. Henry Fickbahm, sang "The. Old Rugged Cross" and "Abide With Me." Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
