William P. Young

William P. Young, 70, of Washington, Illinois, died Saturday (July 22, 1989) in Peoria, Ill.

Services will be held Thursday (July 27) at 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran church in Akron. The Rev. Gary Landsness will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside cemetery at Akron, under direction of the Schroeder funeral home in Akron. Military graveside services will be conducted by Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Visitation was held from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m.

Pallbearers are Elmer Anderson, Darrell Boetger, Leo Faust, Wayne Sheveland, Virgil Smith and Gene Waag, members of Hoschler American Legion post 186 of Akron. "How Great -Thou Art", and "Nearer My God To Thee" will be sung by soloist, Carol Harris, accompanied by Phyllis Frisk, organist.

Mr. Young was born May 29, 1919, in Lincoln, Illinois to Paul A. and Anna (Beach) Young. He married Lucille Lorensen July 4, 1953, in Peoria, Ill. The couple lived in Washington, D.C. area most of their married life. He worked at Caterpillar in East Peoria, Ill. for 36 years, retiring in 1977. He was in the service during World War 11. He was a member of Wilmor Sportsman Cub in Morton, Ill.; Caterpillar Retirees Club in East Peoria, HI.; American Legion Hoschler Post 186 of Akron, la.; VFW in Elk Point, S.D.; and Oakwood Lakes Development Association in Bruce, S.D.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille of Washington, Ill.; one son, William V. Young of Groveland, Ill.; one daughter, Paula J. Meeks of Peoria Heights, Ill.; two brothers, Homar of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Tom of Phillip, Wise.; two sisters, Mary Lou Zorn of Phillips, Wise, and Caryl Kopplin of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.
