Elmer J. Schmidt

Elmer J. Schmidt, 76, Akron, died Monday, Feb. 6, 1989 at the Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz..

Services were held Monday (Feb. 13) at Trinity Lutheran church in Akron. Rev. Allen Bidne officiated. "Lord Take My Hand" and "How Great Thou Art" were sung by Gary Tucker, accompanied by Pam Richards. Congregational hymns were "He Leadth Me" and "Lift High The Cross". Burial was in Riverside cemetery in Akron under direction of Schroeder funeral home.

Pallbearers were Raymond Andresen, Darrell Oltmanns, Donald Schmidt, Virgil Frerich, Dallas Rounds, and LuVois Schmidt.

Mr. Schmidt was born July 8, 1912 to John F. and Matilda Wurl Schmidt in Portland township, Plymouth county, Iowa. He attended rural schools near Akron. He married Opal Clark, Nov. 12,1937 at Trinity Lutheran church in Akron. The couple farmed in Portland township until 1966, when they moved into Akron. The couple had spent the past eight winters in the south, the first two years in Texas and the last six in Tucson. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church in Akron.

Survivors include his wife, Opal of Akron; a brother, John of Hawarden; two sisters, Ella Frerichs and Tillie Erks, both of Akron, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters, and two half-sisters.
