The death of Arthur Finzen at the Akron Hospital, Wednesday forenoon, July 25, 1928, came as a real shock to the community, many people not having even heard of his illness which was of very short duration.

Mr. Finzen who has made a great record as agent for the Mutual Life Insurance company of New York, had been attending to his work as late as Saturday, when he was out in the country with F. J. Swanson. When he became ill that day he went to Mr. Swanson’s home Sunday morning it was determined he was suffering appendicitis and he was taken to the Akron Hospital and an operation performed that day. A secondary operation became necessary Monday, but his condition did not improve and he continued to decline until the end came.

Mr. Finzen was a native of Sweden and was 38 years of age. He is survived by his wife and five children and by one sister who lives in Sioux City. To the relatives so suddenly and sadly bereaved the community offers its deepest sympathy. Mr. Finzen was a young man of exemplary character and by his genial personality had made a host of friends in this community where he has lived for a number of years. A suitable obituary will appear in these columns next week.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the English Lutheran church of this city.

OBITUARY OF ARTHUR FINZEN

Mention was made in these columns last week of the death of Arthur Finzen southeast of this city, July 25, 1928, at the Akron Hospital following an operation for appendicitis, aged 37 years, 2 months, and 5 days.

Ivan Arthur Finzen ws born May 20, 1891, at Backen, Svenljunga, Sweden. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Svenljunga, Sweden, and he grew to manhood in that locality. He came to America in March, 1910, and settled at Akron, Iowa. Here he was united in marriage with Miss Rozelle Lewison, July 10, 1919, and they have since made their home here.

There came to bless their union three daughters and two sons; June Rozelle, Ardis Ione, Ivan Arthur Jr., Eunice Naomi and Arlo Gilbert. They with their mother, are left to mourn the father. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Davis of Sioux City, Iowa, and Mrs. Anna Johnson, of Sweden, and three uncles, Carl Andin, of Akron, Iowa; Hugo Andin of Topeka, Kansas, and Sigurd Andin, of Sweden.

Mr. Finzen was engaged in farming most of the time during his residence here and one the side had built up a very fine and lucrative insurance business being local agent for the Mutual Life Insurance company of New York for several years.

A young man of sterling character, clean and industrious habits he gained an unusually wide circle of friends who mingle their sorrow with that of his loved ones in his sad and untimely taking away. He will be widely missed and mourned.

Funeral service were held at the Immanuel Lutheran church in Akron, Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. D. J. Edwards, of the Alcester and Union Creek Lutheran churches. Interment was in Riverside cemetery. The attendance at the funeral was one of the largest in the history of that congregation. A number of relatives and friends were present from Sioux City and Elk Point. An uncle, Hugo Andin, wife and son came from Topeka, Kansas.
