Life’s End. MRS ARTHUR KALLSEN SUCCUMBS TUESDAY – RITES SET FRIDAY.

Mrs. Arthur Kallsen, 62, resident of LE Mars since 1947, died Tuesday at Sacred Heart hospital, where she had been hospitalized two weeks. She had been in ailing health since September.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John American Lutheran church, Rev. L. L. Belk will officiate. Burial will be in the Remsen cemetery under direction of Mauer’s funeral home.
Lena Koerner was born April 7, 1896, at Remsen, the daughter of Lewis and Lizzie Pfaff Koerner.
Her marriage to Frank Bishton took place Oct. 3, 1916, at Remsen. The couple resided at Remsen until 1941, when they moved to Sutherland. Mr. Bishton died in 1944.

After moving to Le Mars in 1947, she was married to Arthur Kallsen here on Nov. 10, 1949. Mrs. Kallsen was a member of St. John American Lutheran church here and was an active member of the Ladies Aid, Missionary guild, flower committee and other church activities.

Surviving are her husband; two children, Mrs. Glen Kirchoff of Marcus and Arthur Bishton of Nutley, N. J., and three step-children, Eldon, Miss Edna and Lloyd Kallsen, all of Le Mars.

Also surviving are five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence Koerner of Canton, S. D., and Harry Koerner of Remsen, and a sister, Mrs. August Sanow of Remsen. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, Dec. 3, 1958, page 1.

Mrs. Arthur Kallsen passed away Tuesday afternoon at the Sacred Heart hospital after a sickness which lasted since last September. She had been a patient at the hospital for two weeks. She resided at 215 Plymouth Street N.W. here.

Funeral services will be held Friday Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. at St. John’s American Lutheran church in Le Mars with Rev. L. L. Belk officiating. Burial will be the Remsen cemetery under direction of the Mauer funeral home here.

Lena Koerner, the daughter of Lizzie Pfaff Koerner and Lewis Koerner was born April 7, 1896 in Remsen. She resided there until 1941 when she moved to Sutherland where she lived until 1947 at which time she moved to Le Mars. She was united in marriage with Frank Bishton at Remsen on October 3, 1916. He passed away in 1944 and in November 10, 1949 [she was married to Arthur Kallsen].

Survivors include her husband, Arthur; two children, Mrs. Glen Kirchoff of Marcus and Arthur Bishton of Nutley, New Jersey. Five grandchildren, three step-children Elson Kallsen, Miss Edna Kallsen and Lloyd Kallsen, all of Le Mars; two great grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence Koerner of Canton, South Dakota and Harry Koerner of Remsen and a sister, Mrs. August Sanow, Remsen.
Deceased was a member of St. John’s American Lutheran church; was active in the ladies aide and the Missionary guild. She was on the flower committee and was active in other church affairs. – Le Mars Globe Post, Dec. 4, 1958, page 5.
