Jacob Wullstein, one of the oldest inhabitants of Remsen and Plymouth county, died at his home here last Sunday morning between two and three o’clock at the age of eighty-one years. Mr. Wullstein had been suffering for several months past, and for the last six weeks was failing rapidly in spite of the best of attention and care. He was able, under great difficulties, to be about the house up to the night of his death altho it was known there was no hope for his recovery. He retired at an early hour Saturday night and occupied a room alone. His relatives, ever watchful, made frequent visits to his room during the night and he seemed to be resting easily at all times, but at three o’clock he was found cold in death and the exact time of his passing is not known. His death was due to Brights disease.
Jacob Wullstein was born in the province of Wollmirsleben, Saxony, on December 31, 1836, and followed the occupation of farming. He was married in his native land and there also three sons were born. In 1883 he brot his family to the United States and settled immediately on a farm north of Remsen which he later purchased. The place is now known as the Tonsfeldt farm. The family resided on the farm for about fourteen years, and about twenty years ago Mr. Wullstein retired and came to Remsen to reside. His wife died many years ago and he remarried. While living in Remsen Mr. Wullstein was employed at various occupations, chiefly at day work by the village council. He possessed a rugged constitution and was at work daily for many years. He was always to be trusted with his best efforts and an honest days work, and was well liked by those with whom he came in contact. His death is mourned by his wife and three sons and by hundreds of warm friends in the community.
Besides the widow, the deceased is survived by the following boys: Henry of Sibley, Iowa; Gustav,of Little Rock, Iowa, and Herman, of Salt Lake City, Utah.
The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at one o’clock, with services at St. Paul’s Ev. Luther. Church, of which the deceased was a devout member and regular attendant. The services were in charge of Rev. E. H. Eilers. Interment was made in the Remsen cemetery. – Remsen Bell-Enterprise, Thursday, December 6, 1917, page 1, columns 5 and 6.

Because his funeral was at St. Paul Lutheran in Remsen, it is likely that he is buried in this lot. After he married Christine in Germany, he married 3 more times in America. Perhaps all 3 wives are also buried in Remsen in the same lot. Sons, Herman, Gustav (Georg) and Henry also bought lots in the Remsen cemetery. Any further information would be appreciated.
