Emery H. Spiecker.
Emery H. Spiecker, 60, a retired Remsen banker and at present a director of the Toy National bank in Sioux City, was found dead Monday morning in his bed at the Sioux Apartment hotel there.
Dr. Thomas L. Coriden, Woodbury county coroner, who investigated said Mr. Spiecker evidently died of a stroke. He had been under treatment for hypertension for a number of years Dr. Coriden said. Time of death was set as sometime Sunday.
The body, clad in pajamas, was found by Mr. Spiecker’s brother, Carl I., also of Sioux City, who went to his apartment Monday morning after becoming alarmed because he had not heard from Mr. Spiecker.
Mr. Spiecker resided at the apartment house during the weekends and lived the rest of the time at his residence in Remsen.
Deceased was name to the Toy bank board in 1950. He had been with the Toy organization since 1921 and was a former vice president. He began his banking career with the Frist National bank at Aurelia and was president of the First Trust and Savings bank at Remsen and a past president and director of the Sioux City real estate board.
Pallbearers will be Velich Bunkers, Henry Larsen and Arthur Johnson business associates of Sioux City and (illegible) Donald Hughes and Frank Bohnenkamp of Remsen. Emery Spiecker was born September 25, 1896 at Remsen. He was never married. Funeral services were at 3:00 P. M. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran church in Remsen. Rev. Paul Wuebben, pastor, officiated and burial was in the city cemetery under direction of the Moeller funeral home.
Survivors include his brother, Carl, of Sioux City and a sister, Miss Thelma Spiecker of Remsen. – Le Mars Globe Post, Feb. 21, 1957, page 11.
