Ray C. Witt, 75, of Alcester, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 1984, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Services were held Friday, Oct. 28, 1994, at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester with the Rev. Robert Jones officiating. Graveside services were held at the Remsen Community Cemetery, Remsen, Iowa. Wass Funeral Home of Alcester was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Witt was born Aug. 29, 1919, in Remsen, the son of Adolph and Jessie (Rann) Witt. He married Janet Hamilton March 7, 1941. She died Dec. 31, 1978. He married Christine Fickbohm April 4, 1981, in Alcester. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 57th Signal Corps Battalion. He served in the African Campaign and the European Theater. He graduated from Capital Radio Engineering Institute in Washington D. C. in May 1942. He returned to Remsen where he was employed by Bob’s Electric for several years and was co-owner and operator of Witt’s and Nitzschke Oil Co. for many years. In 1966 he moved to Alcester where he was employed as a power use advisor at Lincoln Union electric until 1983.
Mr. Witt was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester. He served on the Alcester City Council for many years.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Diane Holt of Alcester, Marilyn McNeil and her husband Mitch of Elk Point, and Margaret (Peg) Witt of Evans City, Pa.; four sons, Kenneth Witt and his wife, Karen, of Watertown, Paul Fickbohm and his wife Vicki of Scottsboro, Ala., Dean Witt and his wife, Jolene of Zelienople, Pa., and Warren Fickbohm and his wife, Denise, of Sioux Falls; and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Myrna and an infant son, Paul – Akron Register Tribune, Nov. 3, 1994. – page 7.
