REMSEN. From the Bell-Enterprise.
Destiny has struck a hard blow to Mr. and Mrs. Stewart, of Morehead, Iowa. Dr. Stewart practiced medicine in Remsen for a number of years before moving to Morehead. Mrs. Stewart is a daughter of our pioneer residents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hoffman. Their home has been a happy one and a bright son who was four years old last March was the center of their fireside bliss. Mrs. Stewart came to Remsen to spend Christmas day with her parents, brothers, sisters and other relatives. She brought little Robert Emerson with her and he was the feted guest at grandpa’s home. He had contracted a bit of cold on the way, but he played gayly and the happiest one around the Christmas tree. His cold grew more severe January 3rd, but a doctor found that there was no cause for fear of bad results. Saturday, January 4th, the case became more alarming and Dr. Stewart arrived in the morning, summoned by telephone, to find that there was no hope, and to see his beloved son die. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Jan. 14, 1908, page 2.
Note: The name is spelled “Steuart” on the gravestone.
