Remsen Pioneer Taken By Death.
Death claimed Mrs. Hilka Tjaden, 82, at her home in Remsen Sunday night. She was a pioneer resident of Meadow township.
Born December 29, 1856, in Tergast, Ostfriesland, Germany, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Raveling, she spent her childhood in the old home village where she attended school.
She was married there to Peter T. Tjaden September 13, 1881.
She leaves three sons and three daughters.
The funeral was held Wednesday at St. Paul’s church in Remsen. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Oct. 27, 1939, page 1.

Aged Remsen Woman Taken By Death. Funeral Services Held Wednesday For Mrs. Hilka Tjaden.
Mrs. Hilka Tjaden, an early settler of the Remsen community, passed away at her home Sunday night at the age of 82 years. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at St. Paul’s church and interment made in the Remsen cemetery.
Born December 29, 1856, in Germany, she spent her childhood there and on September 13, 1881 married Peter Tjaden. They came to the U.S. in the following year.
Surviving are the following children, Hans, Breda, Iowa; Henry, Twin Brooks, S.D.; Hilka Aden, Twin Brooks, S.D.; Mrs. Chris (Tieska) Jessen, Denver, Colo.; George and Mrs. Lena Reinholdt, Remsen. The living brothers are George and Peter Raveling of Remsen; William, Lamberton, Minn., and Jacob, Elrosa, Minn. – Le Mars Globe Post, Oct. 26, 1939, page 1.
