Funeral services for Leonard Recknagel, 80, longtime Remsen barber who died at his home in Remsen on Thursday were at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul, Evangelical Lutheran church, Rev. Paul Wuebben, Mr. Recknagel’s son-in-law officiated, and burial was in the community cemetery. A wake was held at the Moeller funeral home at Remsen Saturday and Sunday until time for funeral.
Mr. Recknagel was born in 1879 in Germany and came to this country and Remsen at the age of 4. He had resided there ever since. He married Emma Feuerbach of Keystone, Iowa, January 5, 1905. Mr. Recknagel was a barber here for 60 years and operated his own shop until going into retirement three years ago. He barbered part time from then until the time of his death.
A 32nd degree Mason, he belonged to the Sioux City Consistory and to the Blue lodge, Order of Eastern Star, in Marcus, Iowa.
Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Paul Wuebben of Remsen and Mrs. Lois Wixon of Sioux Falls; a son Orville of Oklahoma City, and two brothers, Edward of Fond, Iowa, and August of Long Beach, California.
