Aged Resident of Remsen Succumbs. Mrs. Margaret Peters, One of Town’s Oldest Settlers, Buried on Wednesday.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at Remsen for Mrs. Margaret Peters, 91, who passed away at the Sacred Heart hospital last Monday, following two weeks of sickness.
A short service was conducted in the home followed by services in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran church with Rev. Paul Wuebben officiating. Burial was made in the Remsen cemetery.
Mrs. Margaret Peters, nee Kobs, was born in Marne, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, Aug. 22, 1851. On Ma? 8, 1877, she was united in marriage to Peter Peters. The couple came to America in 1881 and settled near Avoca, Ia., where they farmed for eight years. In 1889 they moved to a farm north of Remsen where they remained until 1902 when they came to Remsen. One son, Fred, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Peters. He died at the age of ten, 40 years ago. Mr. Peters died in October, 1927.
Mrs. Margaret Peters was a staunch member of the Lutheran church. She was a charter member of the Ladies Aid of St. Paul’s church and one of the most devoted workers of that body, holding the office of treasurer for over 10 years. – Le Mars Globe Post, Aug. 31, 1942, page 3.
