MRS. ANNA MEHLHOP OF REMSEN IS CALLED. Plymouth County Pioneer Dies of Cancer Following a Lingering Sickness.
Cancer, coupled with the infirmities attending advanced age, caused the death of Mrs. Anna Mehhop, of Remsen, another one of the early-day settlers of Plymouth county, who passed away at her home in that town early Monday. Mrs. Mehlhop was 79 years old. She is survived by one daughter and two sons. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon with Rev. A. Noack, pastor of Christ Lutheran church, in charge.
Mrs. Mehlhop had been a sufferer with cancer for about one year, and on several occasion s she placed herself under the care of a doctor at Cherokee for treatments. Although the treatments were of considerable benefit and relief to her, the ailment offered a suborn resistance, and under the effects of the disease her advanced age began to tell and she gradually weakened.
One of her sons, Carl, made his home with his mother in recent years and with his dutiful help she was able to give proper care to her little household duties. For several weeks past it was noticed that her condition was extremely grave, and the best care was given her by her physician and her children. The end came Monday morning at 9 o’clock, with all of the three surviving children at her bedside. – Le Mars Globe Post, Jan. 28, 1929, page 9.
