Henry Mehlhop Answers Call. Well Known Farmer In Henry Township.
Henry Mehlhop, well known farmer in Henry township for many years, prominent in community affairs, died Sunday at his home from a heart attack.
He had been in poor health for some time. He was a son of the late John Mehlhop who settled near Remsen in 1882.
Henry Mehlhop held several township offices at different times and was a director of the First Naitonal bank of Remsen and of the Farmers Evevator company. When a young man he was married to Emma Erickson [Erichsen] and has three children, George, Alma and Marie and another daughter [Elsie].
He was a successful stockman and farmer and highly esteemed in a large circle of friends and neighbors.
The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at Christ Lutheran church in Remsen, Rev. A. Noack officiating, and interments made in the Remsen cemetery. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Jan. 28, 1941, page 1.

Prominent Farmer Claimed by Death. Henry W. Mehlhop Passes Away Sunday After Long Illness.

The Remsen community lost another prominent and highly respected member Sunday night when Henry W. Mehlhop, resident here for 58 years and prominent in the farming and business life of the community, passed away at the family home after a long period of illness, with heart trouble. He was nearly 60 years old. Surviving are his heart-broken widow, a son, three daughters, a brother, a sister , and a step-brother. Funeral services were held Wednesday.
Mr. Mehlhop has been in poor health for 14 months, and for a long time he was unable to carry on his farm work and look after his other interests. His condition became alarming in recent weeks and he passed away at his home Sunday evening at 7:45 o’clock, with his wife, his three oldest children, his brother and his sister at his bedside.
Henry William Mehlhop, a son of the late John and Anna Mehlhop, was born March 25, 1881, in Platteville, Wis., and was but two years old when the family moved to Remsen, settling on the farm southeast of town where Henry made his home ever since. He attended the local schools and assisted on the farm, and on January 23, 1908, was united in marriage to Emma Erichsen, also a member of a prominent Remsen family.
Mr. Mehlhop was a successful farmer and took a keen interest in local civic and business affairs. For several yars he served as treasurer of the Henry township school board, also as trustee for the township. At the time of his death he was vice-president of the Farmers Co-operative Co., and a director of the First National bank. Henry Mehlhop was a devoted husband and father, and his greatest concern was the comfort and welfare of his loving family. He was a kind and considerate friend to his every acquaintance, and throughout the community in which he lived for more than a half century he was highly esteemed because of his genial manner, his splendid personality, and his generous nature and fair business tactics. His death, besides being a severe blow to the devoted family, is sincerely regretted by hundreds who had come in contact with him through these many years. The family has the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.
Surviving, besides the widow, are the children, George, Alma, Marie and Elsie; a brother, Carl Mehlhop; a sister, Mrs. Anna Holler and a step-brother, Harry Kohlmeier of Storden, Minn. His parents, two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services yesterday afternoon, conducted in Christ Lutheran church by the pastor, Rev. A. Noack, were largely attended. Active pall bearers, all nephews, were August and Lyle Nitzschke, Walter and Arnold Erichsen, Elmer Erichsen and Henry Holler. Honorary pall bearers were Lloyd and Donald Nitzschke, George Erichsen and Elmer Maass.
Here to attend the last sad rites were: Harry Kohlmeier, Storden, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. J. C.
