Peter Lage. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran church for Peter Lage, 82, former Remsen man who died at Pipestone, Minn., February 23,
He had been a patient in Ashton hospital, Pipestone, since Feb. 6.
Mr. Lage was born December 22, 1871, in Probslee, Germany, and was baptized and confirmed there in the Lutheran faith. At the age of 16 years he came to the United States and later to Remsen, first working on various farms and later taking the position of section foreman for the Illinois Central railroad.
After many years of faithful work for the railway he resigned in 1910 to return to farming and moved his family to Lake Benton, Minn. He farmed there until 1938.
Mr. Lage married Augusta Eggers December 12, 1892. She preceded him in death in October, 1938, after which he retired from the farm and lived in Pipestone the last 15 years.
Mr. Lage is remembered in Remsen as an outstanding citizen, head of a large and esteemable family and a man of excellent general qualities which won him the highest respect among many friends during his many years spent in this community.
Besides his wife, four sons preceded Mr. Lage in death.
Surviving children are: Mrs. Herman (Ella) Schut, Remsen; Mrs. Henry (Lizzie) Schut, Comfrew, Minn.; Mrs. Gus (Olga) Koenck, Emmetsburg, Iowa; M. Sgt. H. J. Lage, stationed in Oberammergau, Germany; George Lake, Lake Benton and Mrs. Marie Miller, Olympia, Wash.
There are 25 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday morning at the Walz funeral home in Pipestone and the body was brought to Remsen. Services here were held in St. Paul’s church and were conducted by the Rev. Paul Wuebben.
Flower bearers were Mrs. Wm. Ott and Mrs. Marius Boge. Serving as pallbearers were Frank Engelbrecht, Henry Sanny, Marius Bogh, Leonard Recknagel, Herman Erichsen and L. E. Kriege.
Interment was made in the local community cemetery with Moeller funeral home of Remsen and Walz funeral home of Pipestone directing.
Relatives and friends who came to the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schut, Camfrey, Minn.; Alfred Lage, Verdi, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Gus Koenck, Iris, Marvin and Peter of Emmetsburg; Mrs. Everett Petticord of Estherville; Mrs. H. J. Lage and Richard of Denver; Mr. and Mrs. George Lage, Lake Benton, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Petersen, Lake Benton and Mrs. Alma Rohde and Mrs. Art Kallsen of Le Mars. – Le Mars Globe Post, March 15, 1954, page 8.
