Carl N. Kohler, 81, of Remsen, died Monday (July 25, 1988) at the Happy Siesta Retirement Home at Remsen.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at Remsen with Rev. Myron Herzberg officiating. Burial will be in the Remsen City Cemetery. Visitation is after 3 p.m. today (Wednesday) with a prayer service at 8 p.m. in the Moeller Funeral Home at Remsen.
Mr. Kohler was born Dec. 6, 1906, at Murdock, Minn., to Joseph and Lucy (Hoddap) Kohler. He attended school in the Remsen area and graduated from high school at Palo Alto, Calif. He returned to Remsen and married Nora Mohning Oct. 9, 1925, in Plymouth County. The couple farmed on the home farm for more than 40 years. In 1963 they moved into Remsen and retired from farming in 1970. The couple moved to the retirement home about a year ago.
Mr. Kohler was an active member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on the church council for many years.
Survivors are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Ed (Carol)Bergin of Le Mars; a son, Kenneth of Remsen; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lucille Arthur of LaPorte City, Emily Seggerman of Le Mars and Gladys Noack of Arcadia, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Alfred and Ray. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, July 27, 1988, page 10.
