Mrs. Anna Kieffer died at 1:15 o’clock Monday morning, age 80 years. She had been sick with gall trouble for three months, and one month in bed with complications and infirmities.
Mrs. Kieffer was born Sept. 19, 1846 at Oberanven, Luxemburg, Europe, and came to this country with a brother in 1871, settling in Dubuque. Following this a year later she was married to John P. Kieffer and they resided there several years, then moved to Bellevue where Mr. Kieffer engaged in newspaper work. In 1882 they moved to Le Mars and Mr. Kieffer started Der Herold. In 1887 they moved to Remsen and started Die Glocke, and later the Bell.
They spent two years in Rock Island and two years in Chicago; also in German newspaper work, and then moved back to Remsen in 1901, buying the Bell and the Enterprise.
Mrs. Kieffer was a member of the Christian Mothers’ Society of Remsen, the members attending the funeral in a body. The funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock from St. Mary’s church.
Wiltgen’s funeral directors had charge of the funeral.
The surviving children are Mrs. Lucie Lloyd, Mrs. P.H. Hughes, Mrs. C. W. Brotherton, Miss Annie Kieffer and Euguene Kieffer of Remsen and Geo. N. Kieffer of Sioux City. – Le Mars Globe Post, April 21, 1927, page 1.
