Long Time Resident of Remsen Vicinity Stricken By Death.
Remsen Bell-Enterprise: Harry Kahl, 73, resident of this community the past 64 years, passed away at his home south of town Thursday, April 7. Funeral services were held Sunday, April 10. Surviving are his widow, three daughters and three sons.
Mr. Kahl had been sick for five weeks and suffered two paralytic attacks which kept him a bed patient in his home. His condition continued to grow more serious and on Thursday a third attack brought the end.
Born November 30, 1875, at Platteville, Wis., he came to Remsen with his parents at the age of nine years. The family bought land south of town.
In 1900 Harry Kahl married Margaret Grage, also of this community and a member of a prominent family. They established a home south of town and lived there continuously.
Surviving are the widow, Margaret, and the following children: Mrs. Frank (Minnie) Harvey and Mrs. Fred (Emma) Behrens, Remsen; Hulda, Henry and Harry at home and Edward, Kingsley. A son William died in 1933 at the age of 22 years. There are six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran church and conducted by the Rev. Paul Wuebben. Interment was in the Remsen cemetery. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, April 16, 1949, page 3.
