Earl Juhl, 87, of Remsen, died Monday, March 12, 2007, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen after a brief illness.
Earl Juhl was born Jan. 2, 1920, at rural Marcus, the son of Jep and Anna (Jorgensen) Juhl. Earl was raised in the Marcus area and received his education at the Marcus Public School from which he graduated in 1937. He was then engaged in framing with his father until entering the U.S. Navy on Aug. 26, 1942. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and was discharged Feb. 13, 1946. He then returned to the Marcus area where he was a farm laborer.
On May 26, 1946, he married Mabelle Witt at Remsen, where they made their home. On Dec. 13, 1946 he began working for Wictor Hardware and Propane which in 1960 became Community Co-Op from which he retired in 2003.
Mabelle died Feb. 11, 2005. He had been a resident of the Happy Siesta since June 1, 2005.
He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran church in Remsen and V.F.W. Post 3328 of Remsen. In 1995 he was named Citizen of the Year by the Remsen Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed being a part of the 4th of July parade in Oyens by driving one of the tractors for the Bill and Rosie Loutsch family. He was the oldest driver driving the oldest tractor. He also enjoyed watching sports on T.V. and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include one son, Thomas and his wife Linda Juhl and one daughter, Miss Ann Juhl, all of Orange City; three grandchildren, Sarah and her husband David Kuiper and Nathan Juhl, all of Orange City, Mark Juhl or Orange City and his fiancée Jaclyn Kaemingk of Sioux Center; one great granddaughter, Aubrey Kuper of Orange City; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Elmer (Mryrtle) Ware and Miss Vivian Witt, both of Le Mars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers and their wives, Raymond and Esther Juhl and Leonard and Dorothy Juhl.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Remsen with the Rev. Craig Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Remsen City Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) , with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. Visitation will resume on Thursday from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.
Casketbearers will be Nathan and Mark Juhl, David Kuiper, Fred and Ben Brown, Perry Krosschell. Honorary bearers will be Dale Hansen, Jim Harman, Dennis Slota, Dale Sudtelgte. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, March 14, 2007, page 10
