Obituaries. Emily M. Holtgrewe.
Emily Mae Holtgrewe, 86, a lifelong resident of Remsen, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Happy Siesta Retirement Home in Remsen.
The former Emily Mae Eichhorn was born Sept. 16, 1914, at Remsen, the daughter of Fred and Marie (Boehmke) Eichhorn. She graduated from Remsen Public High School and attended South Dakota State University at Brookings, S.D., and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She received her teaching degree when she graduated from Westmar College in Le Mars. Emily Eichhorn married Elmer H. Holtgrewe on Feb. 3, 1933, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Remsen. They lived in Remsen where Mrs. Holtgrewe taught school at Remsen Public and Union Consolidated Schools for over 19 years. Her husband Elmer died in March of 1978.
Mrs. Holtgrewe was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Remsen, where she was active in Ladies Aid and O.W.L.S.
She is survived by a son Barry Holtgrewe and his wife Lois of Spirit Lake; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Anna Dorr of Remsen and Annabelle Hey of Clinton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Barbara Lovrien; and two brothers, Milton and Roy Eichhorn.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Craig D. Miller officiating. A private family burial will be in the Remsen City Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars is in charge of arrangements. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, July 26, 2001, page 5.
