Elmer Holtgrewe, longtime Remsen utility chief, dead.
Elmer H. Holtgrewe, 72, lifelong Remsen resident and longtime superintendent of municipal utilities, died unexpectedly Monday (March 6, 1978) at his home in Remsen.
Mr. Holtgrewe had been under doctor’s care for several months.
He had served as superintendent of municipal utilities for 41 years until his retirement in 1975. He had been employed by the city of Remsen before that time.
Mr. Holtgrewe was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical church in Remsen and was president of the Remsen Cemetery Assn. for a number of years.
He was born March 8, 1905, at Remsen to Edwin and Mary Horstman Holtgrewe. His marriage to Emily Mae Eichhorn took place Feb. 3, 1933 in Minnesota.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran church, Remsen. Burial will be in the Remsen city cemetery under direction of the Moeller funeral home.
A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife Emily Mae of Remsen; a son Barry Holtgrewe, Spirit Lake; a daughter, Mrs. Marshall (Barbara) Luvrien, Boulder, Colo., and seven grandchildren.
