Dick Martfeld Died Sunday

Funeral Thursday In Brunsville Church

Diedrich Friedrich Johann Martfeld of Brunsville passed away after a three months lingering sickness at his home Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the age of 70 years, 1 month and 2 days.

He was born April 18, 1875, in Jever, East Friesland, Germany. In his infancy he was received in Holy Baptism a member of the Christian church. After he had been instructed in the doctrine of God's word and the Lutheran church April 7, 1889, he was made a member of the Lutheran church. At the age of 16 years he left the old country and came to LeMars where he worked for years as a farm hand. December 19, 1907, he was united in wedlock to his surviving wife, Gesina, nee Redelfs. Three children were born to this union, one son and two daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Martfeld resided mostly in Plymouth county, except for 12 years near Alcester, S.D. In 1940 they gave up active farming and moved to Brunsville, where they lived ever since. About three months ago he took seriously sick, caused by a stroke. He leaves to mourn his departure:

His wife, one son, Fred Martfeld of Bunah Park, Minn.; two daughters, Mrs. Annie Hongslo of Alcester, S . D., Mrs. Clara Gasser of Marine City, Calif.; seven grandchildren; his step father, Henry Rollap of LeMars; two brothers, Hans and Fred Martfeld, both of LeMars; two sisters, Mrs. Meta Wilken of Akron and Mrs. Freda Borchers of LeMars.

The departed was a hard worker all his life, a faithful husband and father a faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran church of Brunsville. In his long illness God's word was the staff and rod on which he leaned and which helped him through the long days and nights of his sickness.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and 2 o'clock at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Brunsville. Interment will be made in the cemetery of Merrill. The funeral is in charge of Maurer's Funeral Home.
