Remsen Youth Dies After Short Sickness. Eleven Year Old Son of Mr. and Mrs. John Harnack Passes Away Monday.
Remsen Bell-Enterprise: Another Remsen home was thrown into darkness this week when the John F. C. Harnack family was afflicted with death in the person of their eleven year old son and brother, Lloyd.
The little boy passed away in the Sacred Heart hospital, Le Mars, Monday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock following a very brief sickness with appendicitis.
Lloyd was taken sick very suddenly last Wednesday afternoon when he returned from school complaining of a severe ache in his side. A physician was promptly called and quick relief was administered, and Friday he was taken to the hospital. The operation was performed Friday afternoon, and it was found the appendix had been ruptured. Peritonitis had set in and from the outset it was closely seen that his case was hopeless.
Lloyd was born on the family farm southwest of Remsen on November 25, 1924, and attended the rural school in that community. He was a bright, active young fellow, very dutiful to his parents and loving to his sister and brother. HE was the second child in the family. His passing is a source of keen sorrow to the family and to his many little friends, and his early death occasions much sorrow to a large family of relatives. The stricken family has the sincere sympathy of their many friends.
Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon with home services at 1:15 o’clock, followed immediately by services in Christ Lutheran church, with the pastor, the Rev. A. Noack, officiating.
Besides his sorrowing parents, Lloyd is survived by a brother, Donald, 14, and a sister, Lois, six years old. – Le Mars Globe-Post, Monday, Dec. 30, 1935, pages 1 and 4.
