John Frederick Harnack, 85, of Remsen, died Sunday (May 2, 1982), in a nursing home at Le Mars.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran church in Remsen. Rev. Lee Mentink will officiate. Burial will be in the Remsen City cemetery under the direction of the Moeller funeral home of Remsen.
Graveside services will be conducted by the Pieper Post, American Legion.
Mr. Harnack was born Nov. 21, 1896, in Remsen to John F. and Louise Grieman Harnack and was a lifelong resident.
He married Elizabeth Lang March 8, 1921, at Remsen. She died May 17, 1958. He was a retired farmer.
Mr. Harnack served on the board of directors of the Farmers Co-op Elevator at Remsen for 23 years and for 22 years was secretary-treasurer. He was a member of Christ Lutheran church and served on the church council for many years.
He was World War I veteran and was a charter member of Piper Post, American Legion.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter, machinist and inventor.
Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Rex (Lois) Allen of Washta; two grandsons; one niece, Ruth Holly of Los Altos Hills, Calif., and three nephews, Robert of Chicago, Kenneth of Simi Valley, Calif., and Curtis Harnack of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., all of whom he raised.
Also preceding him in death were a brother, Henry; his parents; two sons, Donald and Lloyd; four sisters, Mary Harnack, Anna Cutler, Bertha Harnack and Elizabeth Harnack. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, May 4, 1982, page 11.
