BOY SHOT WHILE HUNTING GOPHERS. GEORGE HAACK, NEAR REMSEN, IS VICTIM OF ACCIDENT ALONG HIGHWAY.
George Haack, 11 year old son of August Haack, living northeast of Remsen, was found dead by his father late Friday afternoon along the roadside with a rife laying near. Mr. Haack is connected with a country telephone company and was out repairing some lines. The boy had accompanied his father in their car and gotten out to shoot some gophers.
Upon the father’s return in about an hour, he found the boy dead near the fence along the roadway. It is the presumption that he had gotten through the fence and was pulling the gun through after him, when it went off and accidentally shot him in the right side, the bullet passing through the heart and out the left side. It was a .22 calibre rifle.
The lad’s mother passed away a few years ago and he is survived by his father and a small sister. His funeral was held Monday afternoon from the Lutheran church. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, April 7, 1925, page 1.
