Floyd A. Miller, 83, of rural Elk Point died Saturday, July 9, 1994, at his home after a long illness.

Services were held Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist church in Akron, with Pastor Donald Greenough officiating. Ed Ackerman, soloist sang "Amazing Grace" and "You Are My Light" accompanied by Chris Ackerman on the organ. Pallbearers were Robert Hebeler, Dean Hebeler, Tom Noll, Gary Parker, Charles Gunderson, Sr. and Harold Warriner. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, under direction of Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron, with military graveside rites by Hoschler Post 186, American Legion of Akron.

Mr. Miller was born Feb. 9, 1911, in Crawford County, Iowa, near Kiron, the son of Nels and Anna (Clausen) Miller. He received his education in Sac County, Iowa. He lived with a brother, Myron and his family before entering the Army in 1942 and serving in World War II. He was discharged in 1945 after serving 3 1/2 years in the Signal Corps in Iran. He served as a lineman and interpreter. On Aug. 21, 1946, he married Lucile Fate at the Methodist Church in Akron. The couple farmed north of Richland, S.D., until retiring in 1982.

Mr. Miller was a member of the Methodist Church in Akron. He served on the Richland School Board for several years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Elk Point and American Legion of Akron.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sandra Miller of Elk Point; a sister, Genevieve Cowger of Des Moines; two sisters-in-law, Wilma Miller of Minnesota and Gwen Miller of Sac City, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers and three sisters.
