A Sudden Death. Chris [Claus] Brugman, living four miles south of Remsen, died Thursday afternoon about 3 o’clock, having probably been stricken with paralysis on Friday last.
On Friday evening he was out doing his chores when suddenly he felt a numbness in one foot and after speaking about the peculiar feeling in his foot started to go to the house. Before he reached it, however, he lost the use of the limb entirely and fell to the ground. He was taken into the house and put in bed and a messenger dispatched for a physician. He kept growing worse each day until he passed away on Thursday. The deceased was a married man about forty years of age and leaves a widow and four or five children. He owned a farm of 160 acres and was in comfortable circumstances. It is probable the funeral will be held at Remsen today. – Le Mars Globe, Saturday, March 28, 1896, page 3.
