John M. Collins, 77, rural Elk Point, died Tuesday (Nov. 4,1986) at his home in Richland, S.D., after a long illness. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Westfield Congregational Church. Rev. Norman A. McCallum officiated. Tim Kelley, soloist, sang, "Rock of Ages" and "Nearer My God To Thee", accompanied by Florence Knapp, pianist. Burial was in Riverside cemetery in Akron, under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Pallbearers were Brian Hemmingson, Marc Arens, Richard Collins, Mark Davis, Loren Buys, and Merlin Buys.

Mr. Collins was born June 22, 1909, at Walthill, Neb. He married Eva Maslonka Feb. 16, 1936 at Walthill. They were area farmers. They moved to Akron in 1966, retired in 1977 and moved to Richland in 1980.

Survivors include his wife, Eva; a son, Tom of Akron; two daughters, Marjorie Fee of Jefferson, S.D. and Mrs. Gerry (Carol) Klemme of Alcester; five sisters, Mrs. Luella Meyers of Broken Bow, Neb., Margaret Roe of Grand Island, Neb., Blanche Weurth of Dixon, Calif., Polly Maslonka of Hemet, Calif., and Edith Weaver of Melbourne, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Wayne and Frank, and one sister, Dorothy.
